The woman in blue found a gypsy cab home,

Everything is the color of bored: that off-colored
Mix of nostalgia, gunmetal and anxious greed.

There’s a bridge we’re building and after that

We’re slowing down in the cash lane, quietly

Willowy stems through tall trees,
An afternoon fog through a grove of
Waspy model look-a-likes.

I can’t make out where the trees end
And the girls begin, everything one
Smoldering end of a Tiki torch.

Someone is taking pictures of other people
Taking pictures and I hear the end of a cover
From a 90s band and the girl next to me stammers

A few forgotten lines before I gently ask her
To shut the hell up. We both look out
Past the delicately wooden homes

And thin trees shading delicately
Willowy girls and past that the ocean,
Wishing it could swallow us whole.
